Is Blake Lively Lady Deadpool? ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ set photo sparks wild fan theory
Blake Lively sparked a frenzy on social media Monday when she posted a photo of herself kissing her husband, Ryan Reynolds, on the set of “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
The photograph immediately ignited speculation among fans, mainly due to Lively’s red attire, which many interpreted as hinting that she’s playing Lady Deadpool in the film.
“You can see her Deadpool suit. She’s got it wrapped around her arm,” one fan commented on the post, while another said, “Okay it’s her. They keep posting stuff like this, it’s gonna be her.”
Others skipped speculation and fervently hoped for Lively, 36, to be in the role.
“Blake!! If you’re Lady Deadpool, I will dye my hair blonde,” a fan exclaimed. “PLEASE BE LADY DEADPOOL,” begged someone else.
Speculation has intensified about who is playing the new character, a female variant of Reynolds’ Deadpool from another universe.
Fan theories initially sparked after the movie teaser dropped in June. It featured a pair of legs in a suit strikingly similar to Deadpool’s as Reynolds’ character said, “I’m about to lose everything that I’ve ever cared about.”
The final trailer further fueled speculation when the mysterious figure was revealed to have blond hair and to be wearing a red and black suit matching Deadpool’s.
The sight of blond hair gave fans more reason to suspect Lively is stepping into the role opposite her husband.
In her Instagram post, she shared a snapshot of herself kissing Reynolds, 47, and paid tribute to him and the movie for including shout-outs for “millennial girls.”
“Tell me Deadpool’s married to a millennial girl in real life without telling me … ” the actress said, noting the movie’s references to Avril Lavigne’s song “I’m with You,” the “Harry Potter” films and “Frozen,” Céline Dion, NSYNC and more.
Lively joked in her caption that while she “should be competitive” about the box office, as her movie “It Ends with Us” debuts soon, she can’t help but root for “Deadpool & Wolverine” for its commitment to her generation.
“It’s hard not to encourage my ladies to spot all the ways we’ve influenced @deadpoolmovie I’ve never been more proud. And I’ve given birth 4 times,” she wrote, adding the emojis “
.”
Taylor Swift has also been among those linked to the role of Lady Deadpool, thanks to her close ties with Lively and Reynolds.
The “Free Guy” star told E! News that “she’s our friend — that is not in this film” when asked about Swift’s possible casting.
Reynolds noted that he thinks Swift would be a good replacement for him if he ever passed the torch to someone else.
“I always do say that if anyone ever were to take over the role of Deadpool, actually Taylor would be very good,” he said. “Because that’s a superpower that I don’t know that she shows everyone too often: She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.
The film also stars Hugh Jackman, Leslie Uggams, Matthew Macfadyen, Jennifer Garner, Emma Corrin, Brianna Hildebrand and Morena Baccarin.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” debuts in theaters on Friday, July 26.
