“Blink Twice” Star Naomi Ackie Had Hilarious Reaction When Director Zo? Kravitz Brought Dad Lenny Kravitz to Set (Exclusive)
"I opened my bedroom door, and Lenny's just there," Ackie tells PEOPLE.
Naomi Ackie was so flustered when she met rock legend Lenny Kravitz, she shut a door in his face so she could compose herself, the Blink Twice actress reveals to PEOPLE.
The hilarious moment happened on the set of the movie, co-written and directed by Lenny’s daughter, actress Zo? Kravitz, 35.
The cast stayed at the same resort in Mexico where they filmed the thriller, and Ackie, 33, opened her door one morning to find the “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” rocker, 60, standing nearby.
“I’d never met him before. I opened my bedroom door, and Lenny's just there. He was like, ‘Hi, you must be Naomi. I'm Lenny.’ I was like — I shut the door,” she recalls, laughing.
She took a moment to calm down and then said, “Okay, now I’m ready,” continues Ackie, who stars opposite Zo?’s fiancé, Channing Tatum, in the thriller.
Zo? jokes that Ackie probably should have asked her father, “So, why are you outside my door?”
The filmmaker’s mother, former Cosby Show star Lisa Bonet, 56, also came to the set and stayed for a few weeks.
“We had this scene that's not in the film, with a butterfly in it. And then we had extra butterflies, and so me and my mom took the butterflies to let them be free,” recalls Zo?. “And my mom, being the amazing person that she is, the butterfly just crawled on her face and wouldn’t leave.”
“I have a picture of her eating french fries with the butterfly. I have a video of her brushing her teeth with the butterfly,” she continues.
When filming wrapped, Bonet was a “sounding board” for Zo? as she edited the movie.
“My mother had seen a few different versions of it, giving me great notes, and feedback, and all of that,” says the director. “Not about, ‘You're my daughter, do it like this.’ She was like, ‘That scene is really working. This is really great.’ And my dad was just going to sit back, and let me do the thing. And it was so fun to show both of them the film for the first time.”
“They're both very proud,” Zo? says of her parents. “They both really liked the film it's been great to have their support throughout the process.”
Blink Twice tells the story of struggling waitress Frida (Ackie) who meets a charming billionaire named Slater King (Tatum) at a black tie affair. He whisks Frida away to his private island where the idyllic setting hides the horrors that occur there.
Blink Twice is in theaters now.
