George Clooney Marries Amal Alamuddin in Italy

Hollywood's most notorious bachelor is a married man.

George Clooney wed Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy, on Saturday at the seven star Aman Canal Grande hotel in the 16th-century Palazzo Papadopoli on the Grand Canal.

Although Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, exchanged vows — in front of A-list pals including Rande Gerber, Cindy Crawford, Matt Damon and wife Luciana, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Bono, Ellen Barkin, and Bill Murray — the couple are not technically man and wife... yet. They are supposedly set to have a civil ceremony in the City of Water on Monday.

George kicked off his wedding day by having breakfast with Gerber and Crawford at Hotel Cipriani.

At sunset, guests and the groom arrived via speedboats marked with the monogram "AG", for Amal and George. According to local reports, the evening got going with drinks in a rear garden before dinner in the dining room, where the main event took place. Clooney wore custom Armani.

A representative for the Venice Municipality confirmed earlier this week that Walter Veltroni — an Italian writer, journalist, and politician who served as mayor of Rome from 2001 to 2008 — would conduct the ceremony. Veltroni, 59, has been a close Clooney pal for years. Fun fact: he also attended Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's 2006 nuptials.

Following the star-studded ceremony, attendees will reportedly feast on a five-course banquet created by Italian chef Riccardo de Pra. Then it is back to Hotel Cipriani (where a dinner and welcome reception was held on Friday before George and Amal had mini bachelor and bachelorette parties) for late-night cocktails, dancing, and the afterparty. But the three-day festivities aren't over yet! Another feast will be held on Sunday before the couple make it really official the following day.

Amal's parents, Ramzi and Baria Alamuddin, are thrilled that George is part of their family.

"Ramzi couldn't seem more delighted," a source told People. "He finds Clooney very sympathetic, intelligent, cool, easygoing, and crazy in love with Amal!"

Clearly, George was just as eager to tie the knot as he couldn't help but gush about his fiancée earlier this month when they made their red carpet debut.

"I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places," the actor said at Celebrity Fight Night in Tuscany. "I would just like to say to my bride-to-be Amal, that I love you very much and I can't wait to be your husband."

The road to the altar was a relatively quick one for a man who was not the marrying (twice) kind.

After meeting at a charity function in Italy, Clooney and Alamuddin sparked romance rumors when they were spotted having dinner together in London in October 2013. A rep for the actor denied the two were dating, stating that they were simply discussing a satellite program over Syria.

Four months later, there was no doubt the Oscar winner and British human rights lawyer were a couple. They were caught holding hands at a White House screening of The Monuments Men and then were photographed looking cozy on a romantic trip to the Seychelles and Tanzania.

In April, it was revealed that George proposed to the Oxford-educated beauty. "The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married," Amal's law firm said in a statement.

"I’m marrying up," Clooney told Variety, speaking out about his engagement for the first time.

Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. This will be the first marriage for Alamuddin.
