Tori Spelling introduces ‘miracle baby’ Finn, opens up about secret health crisis during pregnancy
Since Tori Spelling gave birth to Finn Davey McDermott on August 30, she has shared little glimpses of her baby boy. First she tweeted a photo of his tiny hand wrapped around her finger. Then it was a snapshot of the back of his head. Now, the little guy makes his official debut in a new family photo shoot in Us Weekly.
In an adorable eight-page photo spread, Finn is seen being embraced by his family, including dad Dean McDermott and siblings Liam, 5, Stella, 4, and Hattie, 1. The photo shoot took place at their Westlake Village, California, home in late September.
In the interview, the 39-year-old actress and host of TLC's "Craft Wars" also opens up to the magazine about being diagnosed with placenta previa when she was five months along in her pregnancy. The dangerous condition — caused by the combination of conceiving Finn just one month after giving birth to Hattie, as well as undergoing three prior C-sections — can lead to massive internal bleeding. During her pregnancy, Spelling spent 10 weeks in the hospital and four months on bed rest, and — although she shares pretty much everything with her fans on her website — she kept her health ordeal a secret.
"I just remember thinking, I can't leave three children behind," Spelling tells Us Weekly. So when little Finn was born, it was an extra celebration. "When they put him in my arms I was like, 'We made it. We have an insane bond. We've been through hell and back."
However, it hasn't been completely smooth sailing since Finn arrived. Three weeks after Spelling gave birth, she returned to the hospital for emergency surgery after complications from her C-section. When she returned home, Spelling posted an update on her website, "I wanted to let you know that I am home from the hospital, on the road to recovery, and overjoyed to be back with my family. I am so thankful for all of your love and support these past couple of weeks. It has meant so much to me."
The McDermott family is certainly embracing their new addition. In a cute video on Spelling's site, Liam, who started kindergarten in September, talked about how much he's enjoying being a big brother. "I really like it so much," he told his father. Liam went on to say he'll be protective of all his siblings and if anyone ever bothers them he'll give them "a knuckle sandwich." He then listed all the things he looks forward to doing with his little brother. "I'll play Wii with him. I'll teach him soccer, sports, T-ball. When he's a kid, I'll show him how to hit the ball."
Although little Finn's arrival into the world wasn't the easy one, it seems like life is pretty sweet right now — and he has lots to look forward to.
