7 Signs Bill Murray Might Crash Your Party
There are few certainties in life, but this we know for sure: The Earth is round. The house always wins. And Bill Murray rules.
But we don't just love him for his iconic resume of films (though that certainly adds to his appeal), we love him for the man he is — a man who isn't afraid to crash a bachelor party, ad lib at the Oscars, or roll his sleeves up behind a bar.
Yes, giving a hilarious-but-wise speech to a bachelor party in Charleston is just the latest reason he's one of the coolest people in Hollywood. So, in honor of Murray's awesomeness, we've created this nifty list of the seven things he's done in recent memory that make him better than the rest of us.
1. He pops up at a bachelor party and gives good speech.
It's not really a bachelor party until Bill Murray speaks. Or something like that. Fortunately, the star was on-hand at a steakhouse in Charleston over Memorial Day weekend to offer up some pearls of wisdom to a group of budding young minds.
"I have a little experience with this," Bill crooned. "You know how funerals are not for the dead; they're for the living? Bachelor parties are not for the groom. They're for the unwed." Amid cheers, Bill continued on with his message.

"Here's what I recommend to you. If you have someone that you think is the one, don't just sort of think in your ordinary mind and think, 'Okay let's make a date. Let's plan this and make a party and get married.' Take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you and travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And if, when you come back, you're still in love with that person, get married."
Oh, and when he was done dolling out some of the best pre-marital advice we've ever heard, he lifted the groom up over his shoulders.
2. He livens up a rain delay during a Charleston RiverDogs game… by sliding into home plate.
Also in the summer of 2012, Murray attended a Charleston RiverDogs game. But when rain stopped the minor league game, Murray put his skills to the test and slid into home plate himself. It's also probably worth noting that the thesp is a part owner in the franchise, which obviously only makes him that much cooler.
3. He takes over bartending duties … and serves patrons whatever wants.
The regular staff members were pretty surprised to see none other than the Ghostbusters icon slide behind the bar at Shangri-La during the 2010 SXSW festival. What's even better than his willingness to roll up his sleeves, however, is the fact that he reportedly gave patrons whatever he felt like, rather than what they may have ordered.
"Somebody would order a shot of whiskey and he would just pour them a shot of tequila and hand it off," a fellow bartender described. Hey, if Bill Murray wants you to have a shot of tequila, you have a shot of tequila. He probably knows better than you what you want anyway.
4. He crashes kickball games.
On a sunny day in October 2012, Murray "popped out of nowhere" and joined in playing kickball with a group of players on New York City's Roosevelt Island. "He was bouncing the ball … ran over to second base. Played for a bit … Gave us all high-fives and let us pose with him in the picture," one of the lucky kickballers recalled. Oh, and when he was done playing, he lifted up one of the player's moms. You have to love a guy who makes a habit out of picking up random strangers.
5. He does karaoke with strangers.
Let's start with Murray visiting Karaoke One 7 in New York City -- hardly a hotspot -- in the first place. So. Random. But then, when he was invited by a group of strangers to join them in their private room, he went! Not only did he sing a duet with one of the guys, but he also treated everyone to a round of something called Chartreuse, which is apparently a French liqueur made by monks. Yeah, awesome.
6. He pops by college parties... and even does the dishes.
While in St. Andrews, Scotland, for a celebrity golf tourney, Murray accepted a 22-year-old anthropology student's invitation to a house party, where he happily sipped vodka from a coffee cup and entertained the revelers with jokes. In fact, the celebrated actor took it upon himself to wash all the dishes before he left. Did you get that? He crashed a college party… and washed all the dishes. This means — in addition to being one of the greatest talents of our time who enjoys kickball and karaoke — Bill Murray knows how to wash dishes. We rest our case.
7. He even brings the fun to a big, fancy night.
The Oscars might be Hollywood's biggest night, but let's be honest, sometimes the whole production (including the parties after) can feel a little… dry. Enter Bill Murray. This year, he livened up the evening as only he knows how. While it wasn't quite a crash, he went off-script to give a shout out to his late friend Harold Ramis. He photo-bombed Selena Gomez. And, last but certainly not least, he managed to turn Amy Poehler upside-down and get a picture of it to share with the world.
