BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg is reteaming with Netflix, a decade after the debut of BoJack, for the new adult animated comedy Long Story Short.

What is the new show, Long Story Short, about?

According to the official logline provided by Netflix, the animated comedy focuses on a family over a period of time. It zeroes in on shared history, inside jokes, and old wounds. It promises to appeal to anyone with a family. At this point, however, more specific details are being kept under wraps.

The series, which will debut in 2025, hails from Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company, which produced BoJack and ShadowMachine, which did the animation for BoJack. Behind the camera, Bob-Waksberg will write and serve as showrunner on the series. He’ll also executive produce which he will alongside Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen for Tornante Television.

Lisa Hanawalt, known for Tuca & Bertie and her work on BoJack, serves as is supervising producer and will also design the original art for the adult comedy. Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley serve as co-executive producers.

BoJack, which debuted on August 22, 2014, ran for six seasons and ended in 2020. It focused on the titular Hoseman, a big sitcom star in the 1990s who struggles to capture the same level of fame and also battles alcoholism.

With a voice cast that includes Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Aaron Paul, Amy Sedaris, and Paul F. Tompkins, BoJack built up a loyal audience and widespread critical acclaim. It was particularly notable for the way it blended tones, delivering devastating personal angst along with surreal humor that often poked fun at Hollywood. It won numerous awards and was nominated for three Emmys.

In a statement about the show, Bob-Waksberg said: “It is legitimately a thrill and an honor to be back doing what I love most: drafting enthusiastic pull quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”
