'Bombshell': Watch Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie take on Fox News in new trailer
A new trailer for Bombshell has arrived and it's safe to say Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie will be entering the awards race. The upcoming Lionsgate film is based on the sexual misconduct allegations against Fox News's late founder Roger Ailes and the women who took him on: anchors Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson, played by Theron and Kidman respectively. Fictional producer Kayla Pospisil is portrayed by Robbie.
The two-minute clip opens with Robbie's Pospisil learning about the network from a Fox News employee who is played by Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon.
"You have to adopt the mentality of an Irish street cop. The world is a bad place. People are lazy morons. Minorities are criminals, sex is sick but interesting. Ask yourself what would scare my grandmother or piss off my grandfather and that's a Fox story," McKinnon tells her.
In the new trailer, Robbie and Kidman's characters deal with inappropriate behavior from Ailes, played by John Lithgow. When Pospisil asks the CEO to let her move in front of the camera, he replies, "I could pluck you out and move you in front of the line but I need to know that you're loyal. I need you to find a way to prove it."
Kidman's Carlson, who was the first woman to publicly speak out against the CEO, is seen dealing with misogyny on and off camera throughout the clip. "Someone has to speak up," she proclaims. "Someone has to get mad."
Theron's transformation into Megyn Kelly has been stealing headlines and it's easy to see why. From her voice to her makeup, Theron's resemblance to the former television personality is uncanny. This trailer focuses on how Theron's Kelly deals with then-candidate Donald Trump's crude joke made after a 2015 Republican debate because he didn't like her "ridiculous" questions. ("You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes," the now-president said. "Blood coming out of her wherever.")
"Oh my God," Theron declares. "Did he just accuse me of anger-menstruating?"
Theron, Kidman and Robbie unveiled the trailer during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Theron shared she had "no" contact with Kelly when preparing for the role.
"We used a lot of source material in finding the story and also spoke to a lot of women who were part of this story — some of them were still working at Fox, some of them really didn’t want their names out there," the actress said. "So as a team, we just really decided to protect our sources.”
She continued, "Megyn is fully aware of the film and I”m really hoping she’ll see it. We want everybody to see it who is involved in it."
The trailer had the social media abuzz on Tuesday as many predicted Oscar nominations for the actresses in starring roles, namely Robbie and Theron.
These scenes in the new @Bombshell trailer made my stomach churn. The fear in Margot’s eyes, the “walk of shame”...

Charlize Theron is uncanny as Megyn Kelly in Bombshell. It’s uncanny. I’m still awestruck. She and Margot Robbie are incredible. #Bombshell

#Bombshell looks amazing. But I hate the song they used for the trailer so much, I had to watch it in mute. Also, give Charlize Theron her Oscar.
