“I’m happy to announce that the third season of Bosch: Legacy will premiere on Prime [Video] in March. I think it’s our best yet,” Connelly wrote. “It will also be the last season, bringing to a fitting close a 10 season run with this character, played so well by Titus Welliver. But fear not, we are currently in production on the Renée Ballard show. And if you know anything about my books, then you know you have not seen the last of Harry Bosch!”
Bosch: Legacy premiered on Amazon’s free streaming service, Freevee (then known as IMDb TV), in May 2022 (it also streams on Prime Video). The show is a follow-up/extension of Bosch, which ran for seven seasons on Prime Video, and like the original show focuses on Harry Bosch (Welliver) now retired from the LAPD and working as a private investigator. Mimi Rogers and Madison Lintz also reprised their roles as, respectively, attorney Honey Chandler and Harry’s daughter Maddie from the earlier show.
“It’s been an amazing run with this character so far,” Connelly wrote on Instagram. “There’s that over-used phrase ‘It takes a village,’ so I’ll just say, it takes at least a whole town to make a show like this. We’ve had the best people up and down the call sheet. Actors, writers, directors, producers, and all the crew tried to make something special, and they certainly did. I’m very proud of what we did.”
Connelly executive produces Bosch: Legacy with Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge and Welliver. Bastin’s Fabel Entertainment produces the show with Connelly’s Hieronymus Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios.
“For ten years, Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have been two of our most defining series for Prime Video, Freevee, and Amazon MGM Studios. They are a testament to the enduring power of the storytelling universe that Michael Connelly built for the fans,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. “We are proud of the impact these series have made, and we are excited that Michael, Titus, Henrik and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell in the Bosch world with the final season of Bosch: Legacy, our new Ballard series and more to come.”
As for the Renée Ballard series, it’s slated to debut in fall 2025. Maggie Q will star as the title character, the head of the LAPD’s underfunded, all-volunteer cold case unit. John Carroll Lynch also stars as Ballard’s former partner, now retired, who helps her out with the unit.
