It appears Renée Ballard will be the only Bosch-verse character getting their own spinoff.

TVLine has learned that a previously in-development Bosch offshoot focused on Jamie Hector’s Jerry Edgar is no longer moving forward at Prime Video. (Amazon MGM Studios has also shelved its prospective Who’s the Boss? follow-up series; get more details here.)

More from TVLine

The untitled J. Edgar project first went into development in February 2023, as did a Bosch: Legacy spinoff centered on Det. Renée Ballard (which has since been ordered to series). It was confirmed three months later that Hector — who co-starred as Harry’s partner, Det. Jerry Edgar, in all seven Bosch seasons — would reprise that role in the potential new show.

The series would have followed J. Edgar after he gets tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. “In this glamorous city, J. Edgar is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past,” the official synopsis read.

Meanwhile, Prime Video’s Ballard-focused spinoff is still awaiting a release date, but it will star Maggie Q (Nikita) as the titular detective, who is running the LAPD’s new (and poorly funded) cold case division. The cast also includes John Carroll Lynch (Big Sky), Courtney Taylor (Abbott Elementary), Michael Mosley (Castle), Amy Hill (Magnum P.I.), Rebecca Field (All Rise) and Victoria Moroles (Teen Wolf).

Maggie Q will make her debut as Ballard in the finale of Bosch: Legacy‘s upcoming third and final season, releasing in March 2025 on Prime Video.
