The Bourne Legacy -- New clips

Universal has released five new clips from The Bourne Legacy that mostly showcase Jeremy Renner’s action scene bone fides as the franchise’s new star. Watch Renner’s Aaron Cross flee from pursuit on a motorcycle! Watch him fashion a make-shift gun! Watch him scamper across rooftops and leap into narrow alleyways!

But there are also two telling dialogue-driven scenes that make this iteration of the Bourne films stand out from its Matt-Damon-led brethren.

The first is a scene between Renner and Edward Norton’s shady government official, who lays out the nature and purpose of Cross and Bourne’s singular breed of covert assassin in a fashion more vivid and explicit than we’ve seen before. And the second features Renner and Rachel Weisz in the first moments after their respective characters escape some kind of unseen danger. Their exchange starts out as tense and terse, but then it takes an unexpected turn that I could almost describe as whimsical.
