Boy George Biopic In Development At TriStar With J.C. Lee Tapped To Pen Script
EXCLUSIVE: Another 80s music icon is getting the biopic treatment as TriStar has set J.C. Lee to write the screenplay for TriStar Pictures’ Boy George biopic that is currently in development. The pic will be produced by Oscar winning producer Cathy Schulman, George’s manager Paul Kemsley, Jeremy M. Rosen and Kevin King Templeton along with Primary Wave Music. Boy George will executive produce.
Still in early development, the film will include music from Boy George and Culture Club, to which Primary Wave Music owns the rights. Lee will adapt the screenplay from Boy George’s autobiographies, Take It Like A Man, Straight and Karma and focus on the smash success years of Culture Club.

Boy George rose to fame as lead singer of the iconic band, Culture Club, achieving seven UK Top 10 singles, nine U.S. Top 10 singles (including Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me), and has sold over 100 million singles and over 50 million albums. George is a global icon, who remains one of the most colorful pop stars in British history. His career has included sold-out worldwide tours, numerous television series and recent headlining Broadway run in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The Grammy Award-winning singer’s cultural relevance transcends age, race, color, creed and nationality.
Lee co-wrote Luce, the film adaptation of the play that he wrote. His television credits include ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder, HBO’s Looking and Girls and The Morning Show for Apple. On the theater side, Lee’s recent plays include To My Girls, Relevance, Warplay. Up next, he wrote and directed PictureStart and Picture Perfect Federation’s English-language remake of Thai hit Bad Genius, which will be released by Vertical later this fall.
Schulman is the President and CEO of Welle Entertainment. Schulman most recently produced Amazon’s hit romantic comedy, The Idea Of You, starring Anne Hathaway and directed by Michael Showalter.
