Ahead of the premiere of “The Boys” Season 4, showrunner Eric Kripke has announced the R-rated Amazon Prime Video superhero series will conclude with its fifth season.

“#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” Kripke said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday, which was accompanied with a screenshot of a redacted copy of the script for the Season 4 finale. “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

Speculation had already begun that the next season of “The Boys” would be its last as Amazon renewed the show for Season 5 just before Kripke and the cast began doing press for Season 4, which debuts with three episodes Thursday. Kripke had previously said he wanted at least five seasons to tell the story, but the fifth season renewal announcement on May 14 did not state it would be the final season, so theorizing began.
