Brad Paisley moved by 'AGT' contestant's inspirational song about overcoming bullying
Brad Paisley was a guest judge on America’s Got Talent, Tuesday night. The country music superstar elected to use his “Golden Buzzer” to send 15-year-old Sophie Pecora straight to the finals.
Pecora sang one of her original songs, “Misfits.” The song is about overcoming bullying, particularly that found on social media. “You calling people wimpy, dumb and loser too/Leave 'em alone, you have no idea what they could be going through, may be different to you but they are humans too,” sang Pecora, “All they see is perfect images of perfect people perfectly posing in front of their perfect house with their perfect family/What's that about? Nothing more than a picture on their phones, someone else's beauty doesn't take away from your own.”
Paisley was impressed that a person so young could be both so aware and so talented. “I love it,” said Paisley, “To stand up there with just a guitar, I mean, that takes incredible cojones.”
“Now that social media is this thing that's pervasive everywhere we look,” Paisley told Pecora, “Young people not understanding that that isn't that big a deal, when you look back on your life, and you have schooled so many people in this moment.”
Prior to her appearance on the show, Pecora had accumulated quite a following on Youtube. She currently has over half a million subscribers and has been featured in videos alongside celebrities like Billie Eilish and Shane Dawson.
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
