Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Very Close To Settling Divorce After 7 Years
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's contentious divorce seems to be finally coming to an end after years of battling it out over their shared assets, especially their jointly-owned French vineyard.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the estranged couple is at the final stage of settling their divorce as they have both filed declarations of disclosure concerning their finances.
Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie's Divorce On Their Way To Settling Divorce
Pitt and Jolie are well on their way to settling their divorce after filing separate final declarations of disclosure on Thursday, February 8. This basically means each party has turned over all of their financial information to the other.
It is no news that having all the financial information is key for two parties to figure out what a settlement or spousal support will look like in a case. For most celebrity divorces, this is usually the last filing before a settlement is reached, and the two parties go their separate ways.
A source close to the situation tells The Blast, that an announcement would not be made in the next week or so, but confirmed this is the final move in that direction. As you can imagine, this is a very delicate situation for both parties and their lawyers.
For the former couple, who many refer to as "Brangelina," this is particularly a sigh of relief for each party, given that they have been at loggerheads over their $500 million French vineyard — Chateau Miraval.
Jolie and Pitt had equal shares of the vineyard, but things became contentious when the "Maleficent" actress sold her share to Yuri Shefler, owner of Russian vodka giant Stoli, even though they both agreed not to ever sell the vineyard if they got divorced.
The latest positive update about the couple's prolonged divorce comes after Pitt reportedly scored a major win concerning his argument that he should have a controlling interest. One source confirmed that the actor is on the path of getting back the 10% percentage share he gave to Jolie and will maintain control of the property.
Before tying the knot in 2014, the couple bought the estate together, with Pitt owning 60 percent and Jolie 40 percent. However, after the union Pitt gifted Jolie an extra 10 percent as a wedding gift, making it a 50-50 asset.
In a recent development, the court has allegedly ruled that — for now — the 10 percent goes into escrow until there is a final ruling.
"It’s like the equivalent of escrow… it is not a final decision," the insider claimed, "For now, he maintains a 60/40 [split]...he maintains control of this until probably another year, or more."
Back in July, the "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" actor accused of ex-wife of a hostile takeover of the pricey vineyard.
In documents obtained by The Blast, Pitt alleged, "Jolie and Nouvel were obligated not to sell interest in a private family home and wine business without (Brad's) consent. They nevertheless did so, secretly, through a purported sale to Tenute del Mondo, an entity controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shetler. Defendants have since attempted a hostile takeover of the business."
Jolie, however, didn't take the explosive allegations sitting down, with her legal team firing back, "Ms. Jolie contends that (Brad's) causes of action are frivolous, malicious, and part of a problematic pattern. Pitt’s allegations that he and Ms. Jolie had a secret, unwritten, unspoken contract for consent right on the sale of their interests in the property is directly contrary to the written record."
Angelina Jolie Advocated For Mandatory DV Training For Judges
Apart from the ex-couple not seeing eye-to-eye on the controlling interest of the Chateau Miraval, there are issues with the custody of their three minor children — Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.
Last October, the actress emphasized the need for specialized training for judges to ensure a fair and informed handling of custody matters. It happened that the judge presiding over her custody proceedings allegedly displayed a perceived favoritism towards her ex-husband.
Jolie had an encounter with Los Angeles Judge John Ouderkirk, who denied her children the opportunity to testify about the domestic violence they endured from their father. Apparently, the retired private judge presided over their wedding and decreed in May 2021 that they would share custody of their children equally.
As a result, the mother-of-six implored Governor Gavin Newsom, In a heartfelt two-page letter, to advocate that domestic violence training be mandated for court professionals.
A settlement announced is expected shortly.
