Brandy Wants To Be Part Of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot: “I Need Them To Call Me”
Brandy reportedly had no idea that I Know What You Did Last Summer was getting the reboot treatment, but she is more than ready to reprise her role as Karla Wilson from the 1997 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
“I need them to give me a call because I survived in that movie!” Brandy teased to The Hollywood Reporter. “I came out in the end, bloodied up, ready to go. I did not die in that film.”
She added, “Jennifer, Freddie, hit me up,” referring to Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., who were both in talks to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson.
Of the remake, Brandy explained, “I didn’t know Sony was putting that together. That’s interesting! I’m not pulling a fast one on you. I did not know that.”
The remake from Sony Pictures is slated for a theatrical release on July 18, 2025. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the film stars Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.
On Tuesday (July 30), Robinson clarified on Twitter that the reboot will “definitely not” ignore previous sequels. She also described I Still Know What You Did Last Summer as “canon.” The original film centers around a group of friends who get stalked and killed off one-by-one by a deranged fisherman who they hit with their car. Hewitt and Prinze Jr. survived and returned for the sequel alongside Brandy, Mekhi Phifer, and Matthew Settle, where the fisherman and his son seek out revenge once more.
Until Brandy gets that call though, catch the “Boy Is Mine” singer return to the world of horror with her starring role in A24’s The Front Room, out in theaters on Sept. 6. She gushed over her recent moments in the spotlight, calling it “a resurgence!”
Brandy later noted, “I’m still inspired. I love what I do. I’m just excited for everything to hit the scene and see what people think, and to see if people can still be inspired by what I do.”
