The ‘Brat Pack’ is a term coined by a 1985 New York Magazine article, referring to the up-and-coming young actors that starred in ‘80s hits like The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire.

“[The ‘Brat Pack’] is to the 1980s what the Rat Pack was to the 1960s,” claimed the article, and the members were quickly taking over the movie industry. The reign of serious Hollywood sagas like The Godfather was coming to an end, and a new kind of film was born—one that featured hot 20-somethings playing out all the angst and drama of growing up.

“Suddenly Hollywood realized kids go to the movies way more than adults,” Brat Pack member Andrew McCarthy explained in a People interview.

The nickname stuck, not only to McCarthy but to seven other ‘80s actors. While they didn’t always appear in films together, they were popular faces of the cultural zeitgeist and their careers certainly didn’t suffer from it.

Ally Sheedy Net Worth: $4 million

While Sheedy may not be the richest member of the Brat Pack, she had her share of Hollywood success. Best known for her roles as Allison Reynolds in The Breakfast Club and Leslie Hunter in St. Elmo’s Fire, Sheedy acted in a number of other ‘80s movies including WarGames, Oxford Blues, Short Circuit and Maid to Order.

Though she doesn’t have a ton of recent credits, she did star in the Freeform show Single Drunk Female, in which reunited with former co-star Molly Ringwald for one episode. She also teamed up with Ringwald for the 30th anniversary of The Breakfast Club in 2015.

Anthony Michael Hall Net Worth: $4 million

Anthony Michael Hall lived up to his Brat Pack status with the ‘80s movies Six Pack, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science and Johnny Be Good. He was young—only 14 in his breakout role in Six Pack—and quickly typecast as the nerdy nice guy. He also became the youngest-ever cast member of Saturday Night Live in 1985.

In the ‘90s he successfully broke away from his typecast, snagging a role in the 1990 hit Edward Scissorhands. He’s continued to act since then, with roles in the TV shows The Dead Zone (from 2002 to 2007) and The Goldbergs (from 2019 to 2023).

Judd Nelson Net Worth: $4 million

Judd Nelson played everyone’s favorite bad boy in The Breakfast Club, but that wasn’t his only ‘80s movie moment. He also acted in Making the Grade, St. Elmo’s Fire, The Transformers: The Movie, From the Hip and Relentless.

Nelson continued to act through the ‘90s, starring in the show Suddenly Susan opposite Brooke Shields and the movie Hail Caesar alongside fellow Brat Pack member Anthony Michael Hall. Though he’s has less commercial success since the 2000s, he revived his Transformers role via voice acting and was in the 2022 film The Most Dangerous Game.

Molly Ringwald Net Worth: $11 million

Ringwald was the good girl to Nelson’s bad boy in The Breakfast Club, and also starred in the classics Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink. Her other ‘80s credits include The Pick-up Artist, For Keeps and Fresh Horses.

Although she rose to prominence in her John Hughes’ films, Ringwald was a child actress who’d been in the sitcoms Different Strokes and Facts of Life. Much in the same way, her career continued after the ‘80s peak wore off. In the late ‘90s she moved to Paris and starred in several French films, and has appeared in more recent American shows like The Secret Life of an American Teenager, Riverdale, The Bear and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

McCarthy’s impressive ‘80s roster includes the films Class, Heaven Help Us, St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink, Mannequin and Weekend at Bernie’s. And while he undoubtedly made a good living off acting, he also made a name for himself as a TV director (with credits on Gossip Girls, Orange Is the New Black, Good Girls and more) and a travel writer for National Geographic.

Estevez is more than just an ‘80s darling—he’s the son of famous actor Martin Sheen and brother of Charlie Sheen, although he chose to keep his birth surname to forge his own path in Hollywood. His ‘80s movie credits include Tex, The Outsiders, Repo Man, The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire and Young Guns.

In 1992, Estevez starred in Mighty Ducks, but pivoted to the role of film and TV director and has mostly stuck to that since.

Rob Lowe Net Worth: $100 million

What separates Moore from most of the Brat Pack is that her star power just grew brighter after the ‘80s. In 1990 she starred in Ghost, the highest-grossing film of that year. She also starred in A Few Good Men (1992), Indecent Proposal (1993), Disclosure (1994), Now and Then (1995), G.I. Jane (1997) and more, cementing herself as a leading lady of both the 1980s and 1990s.

Though her career has waned a bit in recent decades, Moore is still active as both a film and TV actress, most recently starring in Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.
