Brian McKnight Concert Cancelled After Crooner Is Trolled By Detroit Fans Over Family Drama

Is Brian McKnight’s familial war against his older, biological children starting to affect his livelihood? This is up for debate after one of his recent concerts in Detroit was forcibly cancelled following a slew of backlash over him being an alleged deadbeat father.

On April 23, it was announced via Facebook that the “Anytime” crooner was scheduled to perform at the  MotorCity Casino Hotel’s Sound Board Theater, but some were calling for his retirement. “Tell him to bring his kids and we might come,” one patron wrote.

Another chimed in, “Wouldn’t even go for free,” as someone else commented, “F*** Brian McKnight,” but used tomato emojis instead of spelling out the expletive. The post has since been deleted.

The concert, that was scheduled for June 9, was then cancelled by organizers. A statement was not provided, and ticket holders will be refunded.

When HuffPost‘s Phil Lewis made the general public aware of the situation on May 3, one fan reacted, “He’s having a concert in one of the blackest cities while being anti-black? He forgot who his audience was. New tour dates should be in white states only. Idaho. Maine. Massachusetts. Let’s see how far he gets.”

In recent years, McKnight has found himself on the brink of getting cancelled because he refuses to acknowledge his older, Black children as his own. He only recognizes his wife Leilani Mendoza’s older children, Julia and Jack, the son they lost—Kekoa Matteo— and the son they share together, Brian Kainoa Makoa Jr.. The singer changed his name when the latter was born to “exactly match my legacy’s.”

Recently, he labeled his children from his first marriage as a “product of sin” and was even called out by his son, Niko, and ex-wife, Julie. In May 2023, he said that him reportedly “abandoning” his children was a false narrative, but Julie has since doubled-down on him being a liar as it relates to how he treats their children.
