Brian McKnight Ticket Sales Plummet Amid Boycott Over Treatment Of His Children
Brian McKnight’s personal drama is seemingly affecting his professional endeavors. The singer recently had to cancel a concert due to low ticket sales allegedly stemming from a boycott over his actions towards his family.
McKnight was set to perform live in Detroit back in June, but was forced to cancel the show after ticket sales stalled. Since then, an upcoming performance in Washington, D.C., has seen dismal sales, with tickets now being offered at a reduced price on Groupon. The crooner’s string of canceled performances and low ticket sales are believed to be a trend linked to a segment of his fans banding together to punish the crooner for his mistreatment of his elder children.
McKnight’s estranged relationship with his three eldest children has made headlines in recent years, as the singer and his offspring have aired their personal issues publicly. In 2022, the singer mourned the death of his infant son in a post on social media, which included him praising his current wife for her resilience in the face of her traumatic experience. However, many fans and critics noted his failure to acknowledge his three eldest children, Briana, Niko, and Brian McKnight Jr., from his first marriage.
“For the very first time in my life I got to experience what it’s like to want to and plan to have a child made from love, and even though he was separated from us too soon I wouldn’t trade that gift you gave me for anything in the whole world,” the Grammy Award nominee wrote at the time.
“Our son will always be a part of us and live on in our hearts forever. I’ve never been prouder in my life than I am right now being the father to our three incredible children. It is your wonderful light that shines on us making us all better every day…”
Amid the backlash from his seeming abandonment of his children, McKnight accused his children, ex-wife, and others of painting a false narrative about their relationship, pointing out that his children are of adult age and that he’s no longer obligated to care for them financially.
McKnight received additional criticism after he assumed the name of his newborn son Brian Jr., despite already having a child with his name, while refusing to acknowledge any of his three children as his own. Since then, McKnight’s ex-wife, son, and daughter have all publicly lashed out at the hitmaker after he labeled their births as being a “product of sin.”
While being one of the more decorated male R&B singers and performers of his era, it appears that McKnight’s soured family matters have turned a segment of his fanbase against him, which could potentially affect his revenue and overall popularity moving forward
