‘Bridgerton’ co-stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton reveal the furniture they broke in sex scene
They got a little too enthusiastic.
In “Bridgerton” Season 3 Part 2 (now streaming on Netflix), Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) finally give in to their feelings and have a steamy interlude.
Spoilers ahead for Season 3 Part 2.
In previous interviews, the actors said that they “broke furniture” while filming a sex scene.
Coughlan told BuzzfeedUK, “Yeah, we did break it during a sexy scene because we were really going for it. We thought, ‘This was so hot.’ ”
On Thursday, Coughlan posted a photo on her Instagram showing herself and Newton smiling next to a chaise lounge that looks worse for wear. She grins while Newton grimaces as they both give the camera a thumbs-up. In the next slide, she zooms in on the leg of the chaise lounge to showcase that it lies broken, with the bottom piece on the floor.
“Part Two is out now, we put our heart and souls into it, hope you love watching it as much as we loved filming it
,” she captioned the post, which also included the hashtag, “#PolinForever.”
In the fifth episode of Season 3, shortly after Colin and Penelope get engaged after having a hot moment in a carriage, they have sex.
It’s a tasteful scene, with a blanket artfully draped over them. But that didn’t stop it from spiraling out of control, according to the photo of the broken furniture.
Afterward, when he asks, “Was that all right?,” Penelope replies, “It was perfect, can we do it again?” and Colin says, “Give me five minutes, maybe 10.”
Lizzy Talbot, the series’ intimacy coordinator, posted the photo on her own Instagram, too, as she added more context.
“Been waiting FOREVER for this to come out! It might be my most favourite work picture I’ve ever taken. You just KNOW it’s going to be a great scene when something like this happens
,” she wrote.
“You absolutely SMASHED this season in every sense of the word and it was a total joy and privilege to work with you,” she said, referring to Newton and Coughlan.
“Two of the kindest people to ever walk on set. We knew we had something special and it’s just incredible to get to share it. This was a scene I won’t ever forget and couldn’t be more proud of everyone involved.”
Coughlan further confirmed the broken furniture story at the Season 3 launch event in Australia, saying, “Yeah, hell yeah we did.”
She told 7News Australia that she and her co-star “could have a laugh about it” when it came to their intimate scenes, and Newton agreed.
“There were moments where we could explore the scene and try it different ways and that ended up in a piece of furniture getting broken,” he told the outlet, adding that they “just laughed” when it happened.
