Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page wowed us all with their on-screen chemistry as Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, so it's hardly surprising fans of the regency romance have been convinced the actors must be in a relationship in real life.

But, addressing the rumours head on for the first time, Phoebe shut down any speculation they're romantically involved. "I’d love to say there was really something between us, but no, it has always been strictly professional," she told You magazine. "There was so much pressure on us to get it right that it was all about the work. We have a really professional working relationship. I’m glad for that, actually. It would be very complicated if it went further."

Phoebe added that while she always hears about co-stars falling for each other, "it’s yet to happen to me, but I’m intrigued".

As for what we can expect from Phoebe and Regé-Jean's characters in Bridgerton season 2, Phoebe said she'd like to get "involved in Anthony's love life" in a second season, just as he did hers. Speaking to Elle.com, she shared,"If the seasons are sticking to the books, then it's Anthony's turn to find love, so we're passing on the baton, in that respect.

"I want to see Daphne get involved in Anthony's love life a bit, as he sort of meddled with hers quite a lot. I think that will be fun."

While Regé-Jean hinted that there's still a lot of Simon and Daphne's story to be told. "I'm not sure I believe in paradise. I know that the romance genre generally does - part of the deal is that you get a happy ending. But as far as continuing to explore characters, I think that love is an evolving thing. It’s a living, breathing thing that needs tending, that needs looking after, that needs mending when it gets worn or torn," he told TV Line.

"They get married very young. They still have a lot of growing to do. They have a lot to do, and I think it’ll always be fun to watch them do that together."

Bring on Bridgerton season 2.
