Broadway Legend Patti LuPone Calls Madonna’s Acting a ‘Movie Killer’
Broadway legend Patti LuPone dropped by Watch What Happens With Andy Cohen. And when a caller asked Grammy and Tony award winner — two times for each — about Madonna, the actress didn’t have a lot of nice things to say.
LuPone was cast as the original Evita for the eponymous Broadway musical in 1979. Madonna performed the same role in the 1996 film version of Evita, which was nominated for five Oscars.
When asked what she thought of Madonna as an actress, the American Theater Hall of Fame inductee said, “Madonna is a movie killer. She’s dead behind the eyes and cannot act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be in film or on stage.”
LuPone did admit that Madonna is “a wonderful performer for what she does.” However, the thespian added, “But she is not an actress.”
Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen airs Sundays to Thursdays at 11 p.m. on Bravo.
