Broadway Series show 'Beautiful' canceled in Abilene; insufficient COVID protocols cited
Bob Seger had a hit song titled "Beautiful Loser."
That seems to be the theme with "Beautiful - the Carole King Musical."
Scheduled to play in Abilene in 2020 as part of the Broadway Series season but postponed because of the pandemic, the show was rescheduled for Nov. 30.
Celebrity Attractions announced Friday that the show has been canceled.
Randy Cole, senior marketing and programming director, said in an email that the Abilene Convention Center could not meet COVID-19 protocols set forth by the The Broadway League, the theatrical union and industry trade association. It pointed to the inability to meet "union and industry requirement due to state and local regulations, forcing the union tour of 'Beautiful' to cancel the Abilene engagement."
Refunds will be given at the point of purchase and should be completed within 30 days, Cole said.
Call 800-869-1451 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays with questions.
"We are so completely disappointed in this cancellation," Cole said.
The 2021-22 seasson opened successfully with "The Buddy Holly Story."
The next production scheduled is "An Officer and a Gentleman: A New Musical" on March 17.
