Bruce Springsteen Is Now a Billionaire — How the Musician Finally Entered the Exclusive Club
Bruce Springsteen has been on the map since his “Glory Days.” The artist first broke into the entertainment sphere with the release of his record, Born to Run, in 1975. The 20-time Grammy Award winner has been “The Boss” for decades, but now he is a billionaire.
While the New Jersey native achieved legendary status decades ago with the releases of songs including “Dancing in the Dark,” “Hungry Heart” and “Born in the U.S.A.” Now, he has hit billionaire status, joining the very few celebrities that have made it there, including Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and Jimmy Buffett.
How did Bruce Springsteen officially reach billionaire status?
Although Springsteen has been on the scene for nearly six decades, it has taken years to work his way up to being a billionaire. The artist has released 21 studio albums, along with seven live albums and five EPs, but it wasn’t until recent years that his income began to skyrocket.
Springsteen recently sold his masters and publishing rights to Sony Music in 2021 for something near $500 million, a deal the musician was thrilled with. Upon signing, Springsteen shared, “I am one artist who can truly say that when I signed with Columbia Records in 1972, I came to the right place. During the last 50 years, the men and women of Sony Music have treated me with the greatest respect as an artist and as a person.” He continued, “I’m thrilled that my legacy will continue to be cared for by the Company and people I know and trust.”
The “Born to Run” singer has also had an increase in income with his recent three-month tour in Europe and the UK. Since many musicians don’t make enough just with record and single sales, many tour to fill that gap. With his recent shows and music releases, Springsteen has entered billionaire territory.
Bruce Springsteen got his start in music as a bartender
Springsteen has been on our radios for years now, but how exactly did he become the best-selling artist and Grammy Award winner he is today? He started out in the Stone Pony, a club in Asbury Park, New Jersey, as a bartender. Although, Springsteen might disagree.
“I wasn’t much of a bartender,” he shared in the book, I Don’t Want to Go Home: The Oral History of the Stone Pony. “[My signature] was beer. With a Jack Daniel’s on the side, maybe.” Springsteen went on to make the Stone Pony famous, as he performed there quite frequently in the 1970s and 1980s.
But Springsteen counts himself lucky to be doing something he truly loves. “I bumped into the luckiest job in the world, because they gave me a fortune for something I would’ve done for free,” he explained in an interview.
Springsteen’s projects and career
The singer-songwriter has released dozens of hits over the years, from records like The River and Nebraska, to songs like “Thunder Road” and “Prove It All Night.” Springsteen has also received dozens of awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
In 2018, Springsteen joined the Broadway community in the show, Springsteen on Broadway. The artist performs a solo acoustic set and shares personal stories from his life. The show is also available to watch on Netflix.
Even with all his success, Springsteen has always been sure that music was the right path for him. In an interview from 1974, prior to his release of Born to Run, he confirmed his excitement about his career. “I always knew what I wanted to do and where I was going. Anything other than music was always a dead-end for me.”
