Bruce Springsteen pays tribute to late 'Rebel Rouser' guitar legend Duane Eddy
The Boss has delivered a heartfelt salute to the Rebel Rouser.
Bruce Springsteen, who played with the E Street Band on Sunday in Cardiff, Wales, paid tribute to late guitarist Duane Eddy, who passed away April 30 in Franklin, Tennessee at the age of 86, in a video posted Saturday to his social media.
Eddy's hits, including the theme from “Peter Gunn,” “Because They're Young,” and “Rebel Rouser,” popularized the low-end twangy guitar sound into the rock 'n' roll canon.
“This is Bruce Springsteen coming to you from Cardiff, Wales,” said Springsteen in the video, filmed by his sister Pam Springsteen. “This is a belated note of gratitude and remembrance to the king of the twang guitar, Duane Eddy, who just recently passed away. Duane was a huge influence on my guitar stylings and without Duane there's no this.”
Springsteen then played the guitar riff from “Born to Run” on his Gretsch hollow-body guitar. Gretsch was Eddy's signature guitar.
“Duane, rest in peace. Play on in that big house of a thousand guitars,” Springsteen continued. “We love you.”

Eddy, a native of Corning, New York, was also an actor with roles in the movie “Because They’re Young” and the TV western “Have Gun – Will Travel.”
In the '80s, Eddy recorded a “Peter Gunn” remake with Art of Noise which won a Grammy in 1986 for best rock instrumental.
