Buck Owens' Crystal Palace is up for sale
The house that Buck built is going up for sale.
On Wednesday, the Buck Owens Private Foundation shared on social media that it would list Buck Owens' Crystal Palace for sale.
In the post, the foundation expressed its pride in the legacy of the Crystal Palace — "28 years of the best of local and national entertainment, great food and thousands of special occasions" — and said that it had tried to maintain the excellence Owens had expected since his passing in 2006.
It cited the current "challenging times of increasing food and labor costs" along with "the wishes of the Owens family members to step back from the responsibilities of management" as the reasons for seeking new ownership.
The post concluded with the message, "We know Buck would want us to thank the people of Bakersfield and fans from around the world for all of their support over the past 28 years."
Ticket holders for any upcoming Crystal Palace concert were told that all previously scheduled events are continuing as planned.
Since opening in 1996, the Crystal Palace made a name for itself as a country music lovers' destination with a slate of concerts, popular Sunday brunch and a museum housing Owens' memorabilia, including a 1972 Pontiac convertible anchored right above the bar.
In its opening week, Dwight Yoakam, Marty Stuart, Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman, and the Flying Burrito Brothers all performed at the new concert and dinner spot.
Others who have graced the stage over the hundreds of shows include George Jones, Merle Haggard, Leon Russell, Willie Nelson, Taylor Swift, Eric Church, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Gary Allen and Miranda Lambert.
A number of non-country acts have also played the Palace including The Ventures, .38 Special, John Doe and Cake.
The venue made national headlines in 2005 when Garth Brooks proposed to Trisha Yearwood during an unveiling of 10 8-foot-tall bronze statues (of Owens, Haggard, Brooks, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, George Strait, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, George Jones and Willie Nelson) made by sculptor Bill Rains.
Visitors also flocked to the Crystal Palace for its popular Sunday brunch.
In this year's Best of Bakersfield awards, it was named both the best place to take out-of-town guests and the best music venue.
