‘Bull Durham’ Co-Stars Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon Reunite at Venice Film Festival: ‘There’s Nothing Like Catching Up With an Old Friend’

36 years after the release of Ron Shelton’s steamy baseball romance “Bull Durham,” co-stars Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon got together again at the 81st annual Venice Film Festival.

“There’s nothing like catching up with an old friend,” Costner wrote on his Instagram Thursday, sharing a picture of himself with Sarandon. “Great to see you [Susan Sarandon] we’ve come a long way since our ‘Bull Durham’ days.”

The pair were reunited Sept. 5 at the Better World Fund’s philanthropy event at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. “This significant occasion is dedicated to supporting women’s empowerment through the vector of art,” the Better World Fund Wrote on Instagram, outlining the significance of the night. “In the presence of our guests of honor Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner, the historic and elegant setting of Cipriani Hotel provides the perfect backdrop for this inspiring initiative, promising an unforgettable symphony of art and philanthropy.”

While Sarandon comes to Venice as an honoree of Better World Fund, Costner is also there to usher in part two of his expansive Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.” Costner directs the film and stars with Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson and Kathleen Quinlan.

Costner has produced both chapters one and two of “Horizon” mostly out of his own pocket. The first installment was made for around $100 million and would go on to tank at the global box office, grossing only about $34 million. Although “Chapter 2” will be getting a flashy debut at Venice, the theatrical release date remains in limbo after it was pulled from Aug. 16 release date in July.
