Have you ever had two dogs of the same breed who acted very differently? I know I have, and sometimes, these contrasts can make them seem like different species altogether. These beautiful bulldogs are perfect examples of these sharp distinctions.

While one is a true athlete, it’s a guarantee that the other won’t be making an Olympic team. See what makes each one an individual in this video shared on August 19:

Oh my! These two are quite different. Perhaps Chubby (@chubbynbella) does not like breaking a sweat, which can happen without trying in the warm summer air. So catching a ball in his mouth isn’t on his to-do list. However, his sister Bella can effortlessly catch any ball that comes her way. She’s such a pro that she doesn’t even have to put much effort into it. So, this game won’t raise her body temperature, either. She could potentially give her brother a few pointers to help him, but based on his enthusiasm, he didn’t appear to be a willing student. That’s OK. Not everyone needs to be an athlete. There’s nothing wrong with being the world’s best cuddler.

Are Bulldogs Generally Athletic?

Compared to breeds like Retrievers, GSPs, or Cattle Dogs, Bulldogs are not known for their athleticism. Their muscular bodies make them well-suited for short bursts of physical activity like tug-of-war, but their flat (brachycephalic) faces can lead to breathing difficulties, especially during strenuous exercise or in hot weather. According to the AKC, low-impact exercises like walks are ideal for Bulldogs. They are also essential as they can help prevent obesity, to which they are prone. Many also enjoy problem-solving games and other enrichment activities like puzzles, which provide a mental rather than physical challenge.

The contrast of abilities entertained people. Viewer @scarlettsfaith responded, “Poor Chubby! We did the same with Paisley tossing her treats. She would let each one hit her in the face. LOL. Bella is a good catcher, though!! Wow!” She really is! Another person pointed out, “Chubby is athletic. He pretends not to be, as he heard the ladies love a hunk who can make them laugh.” That’s an excellent point. He’s showing off his sensitive side instead. Viewer @lolaandkash.frenchies.xoxo remarked, “I thought the athletic Bulldog was an oxymoron. You have proved me wrong, Bella!” She is a shining example of this breed’s potential, for sure.

While Bulldogs might not be known for their athleticism, they are beloved for their loyalty, affection, and protective and caring nature. They make excellent family dogs, especially for those who aren’t looking to take long hikes or spend hours a day exercising.
