Burt Reynolds on Sally Field: 'She was 7 when I fell in love with her'
Burt Reynolds has had a number of relationships with stars like Loni Anderson, Adrienne Barbeau, and Dinah Shore, and on Today he was asked by Hoda Kotb which woman was the love of his life. At first, Reynolds was hesitant to answer, saying, “You’re naughty, you really are. I’m dead in the water no matter what I say.”
Then Reynolds opened up like the throttle of his Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit and picked a different leading lady.
Reynolds answered, “Sally.”
Kotb tried to clarify with “Sally Field?”
“No, Sally Wolfergosh. Yes, Sally Field,” Reynolds retorted.
The actor cryptically said about Field, “Well, she was 7 when I fell in love with her. She stayed 7 for about 11 years.”
He went on to say how he insisted that Field be cast in Smokey and the Bandit: “I wanted her really bad for Smokey, and they said she wasn’t sexy. And I said, ‘You don’t get it. Talent is sexy.’ And she’s got that.”
Reynolds first opened up about this in 2015. Sally Field was interviewed by People and responded to his saying she was the one that got away with a simple, “Well, yeah.”
