Butterfly Cast Adds Piper Perabo to Prime Video’s Daniel Dae Kim Spy Series
According to Variety, Golden Globe nominee Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs) has signed on to join the Butterfly cast for Prime Video’s newest spy thriller series, which will be led by Lost alum Daniel Dae Kim. This marks Perabo’s latest TV project since appearing as a recurring character during the last two seasons of Yellowstone.
Perabo is set to play the role of June, who is a “a brilliant, formidable, Machiavellian woman,” reads the character description. “Once upon a time, she was an idealistic lawyer, but she has since come to the conclusion that she needs power and money to get anything done in this world. Now the CEO of an intelligence company, she is willing to do whatever needs to be done to protect her organization. She’s also a mother with a complicated relationship with her adult son, who works for her company. She’s not unfeeling, but she sees her softer emotions as vulnerabilities, and will often tamp them down when they conflict with her goals.”
Who’s involved in Butterfly?
Based on Arash Amel’s 2015 graphic novel, Butterfly is co-created and executive produced by Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha, with Woodruff serving as a showrunner.
In addition to Kim and Perabo, the series will also star acclaimed South Korean actors Kim Tae-hee (Stairway to Heaven, Hi Bye Mama!) and Park Hae-soo (Squid Game, Money Heist: Korea), along with The Flash alum Reina Hardesty and child actor Nayoon Kim. It is executive produced by Kim, John Cheng, Adam Yoelin, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie.
“In the series, David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him,” reads the logline.
