Reebok and Cam Hicks are back with another collaboration.
This time around, Hicks, through his eponymous brand, has reimagined the Reebok Beatnik Moc.
“Growing up, I was heavy on forums and eBay searching for obscure shoes, and the Beatnik was always one of those gems you’d find pictures of, but rarely find a pair,” Hicks said in a statement. “Outside of the nostalgic factor, I chose the Beatnik because I wanted to flip the script from the first collaboration and make a functional, comfortable everyday shoe that was also more avant-garde than a traditional sneaker.”
Hicks’ take on the Reebok Beatnik Moc — predominantly dressed in browns, blacks and tans with bold hues for contrast — features premium deer hair and suede uppers. Also, the uppers include neoprene collars, which are both soft and durable, that are delivered in his brand’s signature turquoise and orange. The uppers sit atop ribbed gum outsole and the shoes will come in custom turquoise Reebok Union Jack packaging.
“I wanted some of the design elements to be a shoutout to Virginia and my relationship with nature so I thought these materials would be the perfect nod to that,” Hicks said in a statement.
His “Hicks” wordmark is stamped on the medial upper, and his brand’s “Act Like You Been There Before” phrase is across the medial heel. Also, the look features a woven turquoise heel tab and a custom graphic footbed.
The Hicks x Reebok Beatnik Moc will first arrive via Hicks.fm on Sept. 12, and a broader release will take place on Sept. 18 via Reebok.com and select fashion retailers. The collab will retail for $140.
To promote the collaboration, Reebok explained Hicks built “a creative storyline” that he hoped “would resonate with people from small town upbringings” while “reflecting his own eagerness to get out and see the world.”
“I tapped my friend Zack Fox to become ‘Lamont,’ aka ‘The Porch Uncle,’ your typical grumpy old man who sits on the stoop, to which no one pays any mind,” Hicks said in a statement. “One day, he gets a new pair of shoes and everyone in the neighborhood suddenly wants a piece of him, inspiring him to finally take that step out his chair and into the world. It’s all a shoutout to the archetypes of people I saw growing up and a nod to the blessings I’ve had being able to leave Virginia and show people what else is out there.”
