Cam’ron and Ma$e have turned their sports talk show, It Is What It Is, into one of the most popular shows of 2023. The Dipset rapper recently revealed that he initially wanted Jadakiss to be his co-host for the show.

Killa Cam spoke with Complex Sports in an interview published on Monday (Dec. 11), after he and Ma$e were recognized as No. 6 on their 25 Most Entertaining Sports Media Personalities list. “Initially, I wanted Jadakiss to be my co-host,” he said. “So it was supposed to be me and Jadakiss, but Jada is busy as well. Jada got sh*t to do, so he never came. He kept saying he’s gonna come, and it’s not his fault but he’s busy as well. But that was my plan to do this show with me and Kiss.”

The Harlem rapper persevered and shifted the show’s format to be guest-based, but that quickly changed again after the former Bad Boy artist appeared on the show. “One day I was like, ‘I’ll do this sh*t by myself. I’m gonna just have guests,’ and I had Ma$e as a guest,” he said. “So when Mase came on as a guest and we vibed, I was like, ‘That sh*t was dope. Come back every week. We could do this once a week.’ So he called me. He’s like, ‘Would you wanna be partners on this?'”

Cam’ron was willing to give it a shot and even put the money up on their behalf. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, I don’t give a f**k,'” he told Complex Sports. “I didn’t really have a concrete co-host at the time. So I told him, ‘We could be partners but I put up this amount of money. After I get my money back, we can split everything out of money down the middle.’”

Ma$e showed how much faith he had in their partnership by offering to put up his own money if It Is What It Is didn’t take off. “And then he was like, ‘Whatever, you put up when that money run out; I’ll put up the same thing you put up if we don’t get a deal. [How] about that?'” Cam recalled.

Their efforts have not been in vain as this past summer, Cam and Ma$e signed a $30 million deal that would partner them with Underdog Fantasy. They have been responsible for several viral moments in sports media over the last year and even added O.J. Simpson to the show.
