Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden Speak Out About Their Marriage: 'He Makes Me Proud Everyday'
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden are declaring their love for one another like never before.
In a rare public display of affection, Diaz gushed over Madden on Instagram today. The post comes on the heels of a recent interview Madden did with Newsweek, in which he praised the actress as a wife and modern feminist.
“One of my favorite things about being married, is how much pride I take in my husband,” Diaz, 43, wrote. “He makes me proud everyday. One day it might be how generous and giving, another how gentle and thoughtful. Or when he is fiercely protective of the people he loves and cares about.”
She continued, “Everyday single day I am so incredibly proud of his integrity as a human being.” She went on to congratulate Madden on his new album with his band Good Charlotte, noting that it’s the band’s first album in 6 years and was released under Madden’s own label. “Baby you amaze me… CONGRATS!!” she added.
In his interview with Newsweek, the musician opened up about life in the spotlight with Diaz.
“I’m extremely proud of what she uses her platform,” the 37-year-old said when asked about his famous spouse. “She’s a modern day feminist – she wanted to change the conversation that’s being had about women and aging.”
He continued to sing his praises for Diaz later in the interview, in which he also said he would not be a part of Good Charlotte “far past 40.”
“I’m proud of her because of what a light she is in a world where it would be so much easier to use that stage to promote products,” Madden said. “But she’s using that platform she has to share positivity. It’s been one of the most inspirational things in my life watching a woman be so courageous…she’s got so much integrity. I’m a lucky guy that I get to experience that.”
Meet the Star Following in Cameron Diaz’s Footsteps
Madden and Diaz started dating in May 2014, were engaged a few months later and tied the knot in January 2015. In April, the actress talked about her love for her husband of more than a year and a half.
“Nothing matters now that I have my husband,” she told Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM Radio show. “You realize like, ‘Oh right, this is what the real thing is, this is what real love is and this is what commitment and devotion is,’ ” she says. “This is the person that you build your life with, and for me, it’s like the rest of everything else just kind of like dissolves.”
