“We’re living in a ghost world / We’re living in a past life / If everything could stay the same / Wouldn’t it be nice?,” Cabello sings on the chorus. “Always know just when to leave / When the night is past its peak / And I hope you find some peace / Godspeed.”
As Rolling Stone previously noted, the timing for “Godspeed” comes after fans speculated that Sabrina Carpenter aimed some lyrics from Short ‘n Sweet toward Cabello and both women’s relationships with Shawn Mendes. Further parallels were drawn between Cabello’s C, XOXO lyrics, including “If she’s so amazing, why are you on this side of town?/If you like her so much, what are you here trying to find out?” in “June Gloom” and Carpenter’s lines about an ex in “Taste” and “Coincidence.
The other new tracks on Magic City Edition of C, XOXO are “baby pink” featuring Eem Triplin, “Come Show Me,” and “Can Friends Kiss?” which Cabello recently premiered live at her performance at Rock In Rio. Cabello will next take the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 11.
