Sam was handed the mantle of Captain America by an elderly Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) at the end of Avengers: Endgame. He and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) worked together on a mission in 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw Sam finally embrace the legacy that had been given to him.

Along with Mackie, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World stars Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross.

Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, Rosa Salazar, and Giancarlo Esposito are also playing undisclosed roles in the film, the latter of whom is believed to be a villain.

The movie is directed by Julius Onah, who previously made 2015’s The Girl Is in Trouble, 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox, and 2019’s Luce. The script was written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton.

The new Captain America movie will be released in United States theaters and in IMAX on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
