'Just remember, Twinkle Fists': Deleted scene from 'Captain Marvel' reveals rivalry between Brie Larson and Gemma Chan's characters (exclusive)
When we visited the Los Angeles set of Captain Marvel in spring of 2018, we watched the filming of a scene in which Vers (Brie Larson) and her fellow Starforce members prepare for the early mission to rescue to an endangered Kree operative who is undercover in Skrull country.
The scene not only establishes Vers (soon to be known as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel) as a hotshot/wildcard, it also reveals a rivalry between her and squadmate Minn-erva (Gemma Chan). "Just remember, Twinkle Fists," Minn-erva taunts Vers, "think with your head and not your hands."
The sequence never actually made it into the final cut, which came as a surprise to Chan when we interviewed her before the movie’s release (the Crazy Rich Asians actress had not yet screened the film).
"Maybe they toned [the rivalry] down," Chan said at the time.
But it does appear on the upcoming Blu-ray and digital release (you can watch it exclusively above), so does that make it canon?
Of course, the playful rivalry depicted here is nothing compared to how heated it eventually gets between Carol and her Kree friends.
Captain Marvel is available on digital May 28 on iTunes and on DVD and Blu-ray June 11 on Amazon.
