Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion Deliver Debut Performance of “Bongos” at VMAs
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion delivered a debut performance of their new single, “Bongos,” which was just released Friday, at the 2023 VMAs.
Both dressed in blue and accompanied by dancers sporting yellow-and-blue outfits, the “WAP” pair brought the tropical setting of their new music video to the stage of the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night.

Cardi descended onto the stage hanging onto a pole atop a large glowing ball. After landing, she performed from atop a small staircase with columns, much like the architecture in the video, and in front of a backdrop of palm trees.
Megan then appeared on another part of the stage, framed by palm trees, when her part of the song began.
The two reunited on a walkway back to the main stage, stopping to twerk as they moved. They twerked again when they got back to the main stage.
The cameras also caught Taylor Swift dancing to the song in the audience and fanning herself at the end of the performance.
The Grammy winners previously teamed up on the No. 1 hit “WAP,” which received five VMA nominations in 2021.
And both are VMA nominees this year, with four-time winner Cardi nominated for best hip-hop and two-time winner Megan nominated for three awards.
Taylor Swift led the nominees for the 2023 VMAs with a total of 11 mentions, followed by SZA with eight; Blackpink, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Minaj and Rodrigo with six; Kim Petras and Sam Smith (five each); Beyoncé, Diddy, Drake, Ice Spice, Karol G, Metro Boomin, Shakira and Tomorrow X Together (four each).
