Joy, period.
That’s how Marc Jacobs headlined the show notes for his latest runway outing, held at The New York Public Library on Monday night. It was a hopeful statement during a tumultuous time in the country and across the world.
Who better to help the designer spread his message than Cardi B, who’s never afraid to make a style statement. The singer stepped out in a feathery floral frock from Jacobs’ spring 2020 collection. (Joy was also the big theme during that show back in fall 2019, amid another unsettling time in recent history.)
Showing off her affinity for vertiginous footwear, the singer paired the frock with Jacobs’ cult Kiki platform ankle boots in an on-trend white hue.
On the runway, the joyful fashion continued, with models walking in white sandals with oversized footbeds and Jacobs’ clever take on elf shoes. Ready-to-wear spanned from summery white frocks, two-piece knit sets and yellow polka-dot bikinis to oversized silhouettes in bright color combinations that fit with the designer’s recent doll inspiration.
“We use fashion to embrace bold and courageous self expression, to articulate and showcase our inner selves, allowing us to freely explore and display our thoughts, desires and identities in a deeper pursuit of joy, beauty and personal transformation,” Jacobs wrote in the show notes, leaving the audience with a hopeful parting message. “While the future remains unwritten, I am steadfast in my daily practice of choosing love over hate, faith over fear and finding pause in reflection.”
Wise words.
