Cardi B thanks Tom Petty for flowers, seemingly not realizing he's dead: 'This is such a beautiful note'
Cardi B received a gorgeous floral arrangement in celebration of her huge night at Sunday’s Grammy Awards — but she might be a little confused as to who sent it. In a since-deleted video on her Instagram Story, the “I Like It” singer thanked Tom Petty for the flowers and “beautiful note” … although he died in 2017.
“Thank you, Tom Petty, for the flowers,” Cardi exclaimed on her Instagram Story. “I left the room, but, um, the flowers were very big. I want to say thank you so much, and this is such a beautiful note. Motherf***ers love me, bro.”
The confusion likely started over what the card said, which quoted lyrics from Petty’s 1996 song “Walls (Circus)”: “You’ve got a big heart. So big it could crush this town.” The quote was attributed to Petty, whose name was printed at the bottom of the note, but Cardi likely read it as being from Tom Petty. Petty died of an accidental drug overdose in October 2017 at age 66.
It’s unknown who the mystery sender is, but many on social media found the gaffe pretty hilarious.

Cardi B is on IG thanking Tom Petty for some flowers and it’s sweet despite the irrefutable truth that the man died over a year ago.

Cardi certainly has plenty to celebrate, though. Sure, she became the first solo woman to win Best Rap Album at the Grammys, but it’s what happened after the show that stole her heart. On Sunday, Cardi shared a video of her 7-month-old daughter, Kulture, saying “Mama” for the first time. She later deleted her account.
Who really cares who sent the flowers?
