'The Cases of Mystery Lane' Are Back and Tangled in a Podcast Host's Murder in 'Death is Listening'

While Hallmark Channel is known for their rom-coms, the network has been trying to shake things up and move away from the stereotypical rom-com. In 2022, the smash hit Christmas movie Three Wise Men and a Baby, which is getting a sequel this year, was more about the relationship between three brothers with the romance story serving as a secondary storyline.

Recently, in His & Hers and in the upcoming The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death is Listening, the couple at the center of these movies are already married and things aren't necessarily sailing smoothly. What is The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death is Listening About about?

As Birdie (Aimee Garcia) and Alden (Paul Campbell) Case continue their quest to become private investigators, their newest case really puts them to the test. Popular true crime podcaster Laurel St. James (Samantha Ferris) is murdered in the recording studio moments before she is about to reveal the identity of an infamous serial killer. AsThe Cases dig into the case and attempt to solve the murder, they discover personal details that could alter their own lives forever.

Birdie Case is a bright, successful attorney. Her husband Alden is smart and charming, but his inability to settle on a career is causing strain in their marriage. Death is Listening is the second movie in the Cases of Mystery Lane franchise.

What happened in The Cases of Mystery Lane?

In the first movie, The Cases of Mystery Lane, Alden went behind his wife’s back to take classes in hopes of becoming a private investigator. This plot unraveled when a homework assignment entangled him in a murder investigation and Birdie got wind of his plan. The couple worked together to solve the murder, ignited a passion to solve mysteries.

Aimee Garcia (Birdie Case)

Aimee Garcia is best known for her roles as quirky lab tech Ella Lopez on Lucifer and as Jamie Batista on Dexter. She starred in Christmas with You on Netflix opposite Freddie Prinze Jr.

Paul Campbell (Alden Case)

Paul Campbell is a familiar face on Hallmark Channel. He most recently starred in Dating the Delaneys and new fan favorite Three Wise Men and a Baby, where he also served as a writer. He also is credited with writing other Hallmark movies including Moriah's Lighthouse, Christmas at Castle Hart and Christmas by Starlight which he co-wrote and co-starred with fellow actor Kimberley Sustad.

Matt Hamilton (Officer Tom Newton)

Matt Hamilton also appeared in the first Cases of Mystery Lane movie as the foil for the Cases. He has had supporting roles in several Hallmark movies including Three Wise Men and a Baby (as the neighbor with the competing Christmas lights display), A World Record Christmas and Campfire Christmas. Other credits include Supernatural, The Actress Diaries and Turner & Hooch.
