Casting call: Portland media company seeks extras for ‘Criminal’ series

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — It could be your time to shine. A local media company is seeking background actors for the Amazon Prime show that is taking over the streets of Portland.

Adam and the Backgrounds recently posted a casting call for extras who would be featured in “Criminal,” the crime series inspired by writer Ed Brubaker and illustrator Sean Phillips’ graphic novels of the same name.

Production on the show began in mid-June. The casting company is now in search of Portland residents who will be available for filming through October.

“These are paid extra roles, offering a fantastic opportunity to gain on-set experience,” Adam and the Backgrounds wrote on Facebook. “We’re particularly looking for individuals who own cars from the 80s to early 2000s!”

The company said it previously hired background actors for films and shows including “Portlandia,” “Trinkets” and “American Vandal.”

Potential “Criminal” extras can submit an artist application through the online casting portal. Applicants are encouraged to share as much information and as many photos as possible.

If selected, Portlanders may have the opportunity to rub elbows with famous actors from previous hit shows.

Charlie Hunnam, who most notably portrayed Jackson “Jax” Teller in “Sons of Anarchy,” was announced as the protagonist of “Criminal” this spring. He will star as Leo, a character depicted as a “brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence.”

“Game of Thrones” lead Emilia Clarke was unveiled as another main character earlier in July. Formerly known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen, the actress will portray Mallory — a woman described as “a slick and daring armed robber, as quick with a gun as she is with her wits.”

One day after Clarke’s leading role was announced, Variety revealed Welsh actor Luke Evans has also been casted for the series. He will act as Tracy Lawless, a former outlaw who went on to join the military.

Adria Arjona, Logan Browning and Kadeem Hardison are among other cast members.
