Catch up With Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and the Rest of ‘The Devil Wears Prada Cast’
Whether you read the fashion’s Runway magazine or not, we can all agree that its editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, is an icon—however, the rest of comedy drama The Devil Wears Prada's cast might not agree.
The 2006 movie — based on the book set in the fashion world by Lauren Weisberger — follows a young journalist named Andy Sachs as she tries to navigate being an assistant to aforementioned hard-to-please editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. The movie is rumored to be based on Anna Wintour and is set to have a sequel come out sometime soon, but before that happens, we need to see what the cast has been up to since it was first released in theaters. Anne Hathaway
CHARACTER PLAYED: Andy Sachs
BEST KNOWN FOR: The Princess Diaries (2001), Ella Enchanted (2004), Rachel Getting Married (2008), Love & Other Drugs (2010), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Les Misérables (2012), Ocean’s Eight (2018), The Hustle (2019) and The Idea of You (2024).
PERSONAL: Hathaway has been married to Adam Shulman since 2012. They have two children together.
THOUGHTS ON THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: “The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it’s the love that everybody poured into it.”
FUN FACT: To prepare for her role, Hathaway worked as an assistant for a week at an auction house.
Meryl Streep: 'The Devil Wears Prada' cast
CHARACTER PLAYED: Miranda Priestly
BEST KNOWN FOR: Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Sophie’s Choice (1982), Out of Africa (2985), Death Becomes Her (1992), Mamma Mia! (2008), Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), August: Osage County (2013), Into the Woods (2014), Little Women (2019) and Only Murders in the Building (2023).
PERSONAL: Streep is separated from her husband, Don Gummer, with whom she shares four children.
THOUGHTS ON THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: “I liked that there wasn't any backing away from the horrible parts of her, and the real scary parts of her had to do with the fact that she didn't try to ingratiate, which is always the female emollient in any situation where you want your way — what my friend Carrie Fisher used to call ‘the squeezy and tilty’ of it all. [Miranda] didn't do any of that.”
FUN FACT: Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintor — who Miranda is rumored to be based on — once said she would want Streep to play her if they ever made a movie about her life.
Emily Blunt
CHARACTER PLAYED: Emily
BEST KNOWN FOR: The Young Victoria (2009), Gulliver’s Travels (2010), The Muppets (2011), Into the Woods (2014), The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016), The Girl on the Train (2016), A Quiet Place I & II (2018/2020), Mary Poppins Returns (2018), Oppenheimer (2023) and The Fall Guy (2024).
PERSONAL: Blunt has been married to John Krasinski since 2010. They have two children together.
THOUGHTS ON THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: “[Miranda] gives us a character who a lot of us can aspire to, to be uncompromising, tough, real, honest, to the point, and not have to contort and dance to get your point across without hurting or offending anybody, which I think men have a much easier time with.”
FUN FACT: Blunt insisted her character use her natural British accent to make her sound more arrogant and commanding.
Stanley Tucci: 'The Devil Wears Prada' cast
CHARACTER PLAYED: Nigel
BEST KNOWN FOR: Slaves of New York (1989), Beethoven (1992), Big Night (1996), Maid in Manhattan (2002), The Lovely Bones (2009), Easy A (2010), Burlesque (2010), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), The Hunger Games I-IV (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015), The Witches (2020), Central Park (2020 to 2022) and What If…? (2021 to 2023).
PERSONAL: Tucci has been married twice and has five children.
THOUGHTS ON THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: “Our society is conditioned to see the world through men's eyes in cinema and literature, and this [film] started to make that change.”
FUN FACT: Tucci was one of the last people to be cast in the film.
Adrian Grenier
CHARACTER PLAYED: Nate
BEST KNOWN FOR: Drive Me Crazy (1999), A.I Artificial Intelligence (2001), Entourage (2004 to 2011), A Perfect Fit (2005), Arsenal (2017) and Far More (2021).
PERSONAL: Grenier is married with one child.
THOUGHTS ON THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: “When that whole thing [about Nate being the ‘real villain’ of the film] first came out, I couldn't get my head around it. I didn't understand it. Perhaps it was because I wasn't mature as a man, just as Nate probably could've used a little growing up. I was just as immature as him at the time, so I couldn't see his shortcomings, but, after taking time to reflect and much deliberation online, I can realize the truth in that perspective. Nate hadn't grown up, but Andy had.... she needed more out of life, and she was achieving it. He couldn't support her like she needed, because he was a fragile, wounded boy…. on behalf of all the Nates out there: Come on! Step it up!”
FUN FACT: In The Devil Wears Prada book, Nate is a teacher, not a chef.
