CBS Daytime Soap ‘Beyond the Gates’ Casts Three Lead Roles
CBS is beginning to populate the world Beyond the Gates.
Tamara Tunie, Daphnee Duplaix and Karla Mosley will play lead roles in the soap — which also has a new title, adding “Beyond” to its former name The Gates — that’s set to premiere in early 2025. Beyond the Gates will be the first daytime drama centered on Black characters since NBC’s Generations in 1989, and the first such hourlong show ever.

Tunie, Duplaix and Mosley, all of whom have extensive daytime drama experience, will play members of the Dupree family, who are at the core of the series and described as “a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty.” Tunie (Law & Order: SVU, As the World Turns) will play matriarch Anita Dupree, a onetime famous singer married to a retired senator who retains a fierceness from her upbringing in Chicago.
Duplaix (One Life to Live, Passions) will play Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson, one of Anita’s two daughters, a philanthropist and psychiatrist whose life seems perfect — from the outside. Mosley (The Bold and the Beautiful) plays Dani Dupree, Nicole’s sister and a model turned momager who gave up her career for love.
Beyond the Gates is set in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C., in one of the most affluent African American communities in the country. Per the show’s description, viewers will “find a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. … But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those that live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have ‘made it’ and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life — some with more grace than others.”
The series comes from the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, and P&G Studios. Michele Val Jean created Beyond the Gates and will serve as showrunner. She executive produces with Ducksworth, Robert Guza Jr., Julie Carruthers, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld.
