Get excited, people! On September 19, CBS revealed the first cast members of Beyond the Gates, its hotter than hotly anticipated new daytime drama — and all three of them are daytime vets: Tamara Tunie, who played Jessica Griffin on As the World Turns off and on from 1987-2009, Karla Mosley, who was, of course, transgender model Maya Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful, and Daphnee Duplaix, who was Passions’ Valerie Davis, the female alter ego of Vincent Clarkson, who had an affair with his father. (Hey, it was Passions!)

Tunie, who literally everyone knows as medical examiner Melinda Warner on Law & Order: SVU, will head up the Dupree family as matriarch Anita, a former singer with an elegance that belies the fierceness within her. She and her husband, a retired senator, have two daughters, played by Mosley and Duplaix.

Mosley, who got her soap start on Guiding Light, is tackling the role of willful Dani, the wild child of the Dupree family. She’s a top model who gave up her career in front of the camera for love’s sake and is now a momager.

Once One Life to Live’s Rachel Gannon, Duplaix will be scrubbing in as Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson, Anita’s daughter and Dani’s sister. On the surface, the shrink is living the perfect life with her surgeon husband. But scratch the surface and… On second thought, maybe it’s best that you don’t scratch the surface.

Upon its debut in early 2025, Beyond the Gates (formerly titled simply The Gates) will be the first Blackcentric soap to be launched since Generations in 1989 and the first-ever hourlong Black soap. Per the official logline for the show, which boasts Emmy-winning Bold & Beautiful and General Hospital MVP Michele Val Jean as creator, executive producer and showrunner, the drama “is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., and in one the most affluent African-American counties in the United States. Here you’ll find a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home.

“At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those that live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have ‘made it’ and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life… and some with more grace than others.”
