Celebrate 4th of July With These 10 Great Uses of Fireworks in Film
Whether they signify a romantic moment with a loved one, a childhood memory or flat-out destruction, fireworks have had a place in cinema for decades. And now you can celebrate those moments in one patriotic video.
From 1964’s Mary Poppins, when fireworks were used to disperse dancers from a nearby rooftop, to 1995’s Toy Story, when Buzz and Woody used a firework as a mode of transportation, fireworks have been vital to storytelling over the years.
And who can forget The Sandlot? The 1993 film ends with a touching moment of the boys playing baseball under the light of their community fireworks. Or 1983’s Return of the Jedi — the celebration after the destruction of the Death Star is accented with fireworks over the Ewoks’ village.
So remember, when you’re looking up at the beautiful displays this weekend, you can imagine yourself as Jesse Eisenberg or Kristen Stewart from the 2009 film Adventureland doing the same thing. Almost brings a tear to the eye.
