Celebrities at the 2024 Venice Film Festival: PHOTOS
While the world may know the Golden Globe Awards and Oscars as the highest awards actors and filmmakers may receive, others might consider the honor of internationally acclaimed film festivals, including the Cannes and Venice, as even more pristine.
Just this year, the Venice Film Festival (which will run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7) will see some of the most anticipated movies of the year including Joker: Folie à Deux with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas.
Judging the impressive lineup of films will be Jury President and legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert, American director and screenwriter James Gray, British director and screenwriter Andrew Haigh, Polish director, screenwriter, and producer Agnieszka Holland, Brazilian director-screenwriter Kleber Mendon?a Filho, Mauritanian director, screenwriter and producer Abderrahmane Sissako, Italian director-screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore, German director-screenwriter Julia von Heinz and Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, per The Hollywood Reporter.
While they judge all the contenders for the Golden Lion for Best Film, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement has already been chosen: Sigourney Weaver!
“I am truly honored to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from La Biennale di Venezia,” Weaver said in a statement to the festival. “To be gifted this award is a privilege I share with all the filmmakers and collaborators I have worked with throughout the years. I proudly accept this award in celebration of all who have helped bring these films to life.”
