Celebrities defend Meghan Markle for revealing miscarriage: 'People need to know they aren't alone'
Celebrities are speaking out in support of Meghan Markle after the Duchess of Sussex revealed in a New York Times op-ed on Wednesday that she had suffered a miscarriage back in July. Some are even speaking in defense of the 39-year-old as people criticize her decision to share the devastating news with the public.
When you criticize Meghan for discussing miscarriage, because it’s “too personal” for her to share, you’re enabling the culture of silence around the issue that keeps so many people in a state of shame/guilt/loneliness/misinformation. People NEED to know they aren’t alone in this

“When you criticize Meghan for discussing miscarriage, because it’s ‘too personal’ for her to share, you’re enabling the culture of silence around the issue that keeps so many people in a state of shame/guilt/loneliness/misinformation,” Jameela Jamil tweeted. “People NEED to know they aren’t alone in this.”
The Good Place actress was writing in response to those reacting negatively to her firned Markle’s piece, claiming that her openness on the topic is in direct conflict with the duchess and Prince Harry’s decision to step away from their royal duties in January and relocate to Santa Barbara, Calif. with their 1-year-old son Archie.
“The same person who fled her husband’s native country and his royal duties for the sake of ‘privacy’ and who kept the birth of her first child a secret for days before the public announcement is now telling the world about one of the most private experiences a couple can have,” one person tweeted.
“She’s after attention,” another said. “I’ve had multiple miscarriages, The last thing I would [have] wanted is for the whole world to know.”
Ming Na-Wen, the actress who voiced Mulan in the original animated films, shared that as a woman who also miscarried, Markle’s openness is what some women going through the experience actually need.
When I had my miscarriage, I learned from my OBGYN that it occurs 1 in 4 pregnancies! THAT info astounded me.
I asked, “Why isn’t it more common knowledge?”
“Very few want to talk about it.”
Thank you, Meghan Markle, for sharing. Sorry for your & Prince Harry’s loss. 🙏🏼 https://t.co/YOhHvcjSaU— Ming-Na Wen (@MingNa) November 25, 2020
Others shared a similar sentiment. Monica Lewinsky wrote, “a private pain shared publicly may not help you, but it helps someone.”
“what would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? the world would split open.”

While Markle seems to be getting plenty of support, writer Roxane Gay took to her own Twitter to share a message about how people have shown their true colors through their negativity toward Markle — which Gabrielle Union shared to her own account in agreement.
