Celebrities You Didn’t Realize Are Parents
When it comes to celebrity parents, there are two types: the ones that show the world any and all updates about their bundles of joy on social media, and never fail to bring up how much they love parenthood in interviews. Then there’s the other kind: the ones that keep their children’s lives as private as possible. And with this type, it can range from just not sharing their faces on social media to not even telling people the sex or name of their child. With the parents who keep their children’s lives private, people often don’t even realize they’re parents.
Some celebrities like Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden don’t really share anything about their children, but it’s pretty well known that they are parents, y’know? However there are just as many — if not more — celebrities who many didn’t realize were parents.
For instance, many were shocked to find out that Emma Stone has a daughter after she shouted her out in her 2024 Oscar speech, especially since Stone doesn’t mention her daughter much in interviews, doesn’t have social media, and has only two photos of her showing her baby bump.
Along with Stone, there are stars like Barry Keoghan or Jeremy Allen White, who many are shocked to find out are dads.
So we’re going to talk about all the celebrities that many fans are shocked to find out are parents, and chances are you’ll probably be shocked by a couple of these yourself.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone and Dave McCary started dating in 2017, and in 2020 they got married. In March 2021, they welcomed a daughter named Louise Jean. Stone has only talked about motherhood twice, once a couple months after she gave birth and in her iconic 2024 Oscars speech when she said: “And, most importantly, my daughter, who’s gonna be 3 in three days and has turned our lives technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl.”
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence and Cook Maroney married in 2019 after dating for a year, and in Feb 2022, they welcomed a son named Cy.
In a rare interview with Vogue, Lawrence talked about how her life seemingly started all over again after welcoming her son.
But she did fall in love right away, and it does seem she loves her baby more than she loves her cat: “The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over. Like, Now is day one of my life. I just stared. I was just so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere,” she said. “Newborns are just so amazing. They’re these pink, swollen, fragile little survivors. Now I love all babies. Now I hear a baby crying in a restaurant and I’m like, Awwww, preciousssss.”
Ashley Olsen
Ashley Olsen and her husband Louis Eisner secretly welcomed a son in 2023, named Otto. She has never spoken publicly about motherhood, which leads to fans always being shocked when they discover she’s a mom!
Nicholas Hoult
Did you know Nicholas Hoult has two kids? He and his girlfriend Bryanna Holly have welcomed two children together, a son named Joaquin, born in 2018, and another child, whom they welcomed secretly in 2022, per Hello.
In a rare interview with the Guardian, Hoult talked about how he didn’t have an identity crisis during the pandemic because he got to be a dad full-time. He said, “I think because I was just home being Dad, which was nice.”
Natalie Dormer
Natalie Dormer and her partner, David Oakes, welcomed a daughter in Jan 2021. In a rare interview with People, she talked about the joys of being a mom, saying, “She’s just three months and she’s an absolute joy, but I’m never going to complain about shooting hours ever again because sleep deprivation is something else.”
She added, “People say, ‘Your whole perspective on life will change, and your whole set of value system …’ and you sort of roll your eyes and go, ‘Yeah, yeah…’ – and then you have one (baby) and you go, ‘Oh, wow!'”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his wife Tasha McCauley have welcomed two sons, born in Aug 2015 and June 2017, respectively, but have refused to give any details about them. But he did tell Jimmy Fallon that during the pandemic, “I felt lucky I got to take some time off. I have two boys, and it’s the best. It’s the best!”
Lucy Liu
In 2015, Lucy Liu welcomed a son named Rockwell via gestational surrogate.
In an interview with The Cut in 2023, Liu talked about becoming a mom in her 40s. “I didn’t have a plan. I just thought, ‘I want to change the conversation a little bit.’ I didn’t mull it over too much. I didn’t do a lot of research, I just pulled the trigger,” she said. “I can think myself out of something easily. If I think too much I won’t do it. It’s better for me to feel something and just go for it. A lot of people read books about parenting. I didn’t do any of that. I was like, ‘When the child is here, I’m just going to figure it out.'”
Tom Ellis
Tom Ellis actually has four children. He has three daughters named Nora Ellis, Florence Elsie Ellis and Marnie Mae Ellis. Most recently, he welcomed a daughter named Dolly Ellis-Oppenheimer, born in Nov 2023, with his wife Meaghan Oppenheimer, via surrogate.
Brenda Song
Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin have welcomed two children: a son named Dakota, born in April 2021, and another son whose name they haven’t divulged, born in Dec 2022.
In a previous interview with E, Song talked about how her priorities changed after becoming a mom, including her career mindset. “I think being a parent changes a lot of your career choices,” she said. “Because now I really think about where things are being shot, how long they’re being shot for because everything revolves around my son.”
Rashida Jones
Rashida Jones and Ezra Koenig welcomed a son in Aug 2018 named Isaiah.
Sofía Vergara
Many may not know this, but Sofía Vergara had a son when she was 19 years old: a son named Manolo, who was born in Sept 16, 1991.
In a rare interview with Redbook, she talked about the sacrifices she made when she was younger. She said, “It’s a big responsibility; you can’t go out much at night. Instead of buying a pair of shoes, you have to buy diapers. When you have a kid, you have to be more mature.”
Charlie Heaton
Charlie Heaton has a son with former bandmate Akiko Matsuura, a son named Archie, born in 2014. He doesn’t talk about his family in interviews.
Rupert Grint
Rupert Grint and his long-term partner, Georgia Groome, welcomed a daughter named Wednesday in May 2020.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said, “It’s great. I’m absolutely loving being a dad. It’s just the best thing. It’s amazing how it completely kind of takes over everything. It’s all I really care about, so it’s been great.”
Jonah Hill
Jonah Hill and his girlfriend Olivia Millar welcomed their first child in June 2023. They’ve never confirmed any details, and have yet to speak about parenthood in interviews.
Oliver Phelps
Oliver Phelps, also known as the beloved actor who played George Weasley in the Harry Potter series, is a dad of two! He and Katy Humpage have welcomed two daughters named Autumn and Emilia.
Not much else is known, since he keeps their lives very private.
Adrienne Bailon
In Aug 2022, Adrienne Bailon and Israel Houghton welcomed a son together via surrogacy named Ever James via surrogacy. (She also became the stepmom to Houghton’s four children from a previous relationship).
In a previous interview with BET, she talked about welcoming her son via surrogacy. “The journey is not the way I thought it would be. I obviously never thought that it would have a child through a surrogate. I always imagined that I’d be pregnant with beautiful maternity photos and all those things,” she said. “And while I thought that [surrogacy] would take away from my journey as a mother, the moment I held my son, I knew I would not change a thing about how we got here!”
Michael Fassbender & Alicia Vikander
After Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander married in 2017, they welcomed a son named Mark four years later, on 2021. She told People how much she loves motherhood, saying, “I now have a whole new understanding of life in general That’s pretty beautiful, and obviously will give a lot to any of my work in the future.”
Barry Keoghan
Barry Keoghan welcomed a son named Brando on Aug 2022 with a woman named Alyson Sandro. He spoke with GQ in a super-rare interview about fatherhood, saying, “I feel a responsibility. I feel an enormous amount of pressure, which is good. And I can’t get the little boy off my mind. It’s beautiful. It’s crazy, but when he looks at you, you feel like the most important person in the world. That’s the effect he has on me.”
Jeremy Allen White
Jeremy Allen White and his ex-wife Addison Timlin welcomed two daughters: Ezer, born on Oct 20, 2018, and Dolores, born on Dec 12, 2020.
They keep their children’s lives quite private, but White did shout them out in his 2024 Golden Globes speech, saying, “Ezer and Dolores, you are my heart. I love you. I love you. I love you.”
Donald Glover
Donald Glover and his wife Michelle White actually have three children! They share three sons named Legend, born in Oct 2016; Drake, born in Jan 2018; and Donald III, born in May 2020.
While Glover is well-known for being private about his family life, he did tell Entertainment Tonight in 2022, “I’m just not as cynical. I think babies, they kind of change you and make you love things. And my sons are like, they are my life. They are a big part of me.”
Darren Criss
Darren Criss and his wife Mia Swier welcomed a daughter in April 2022 named Bluesy Belle.
He said in a super-rare interview with Entertainment Tonight that he adores fatherhood. “I think life is always present in the work you do. So, it was present when I was a son, as a friend, as a brother, as a husband. I bring that to all the things that I do. So sure, a new element of fatherhood is there, but I try and bring my best version of myself to everything I do. So hopefully I’ve enhanced. I’ve levelled up.”
Perez Hilton
Perez Hilton actually has three children: a son named Mario Armando Lavandeira III, born on Feb 17, 2013, a daughter named Mia Alma Lavandeira, born on May 9, 2015, and another daughter named Mayte Amor, born on October 4, 2017; all of which were born via surrogacy.
Kristen Wiig
Kristen Wiig and Avi Rothman welcomed twins via surrogacy on Jan 2020 named Luna and Shiloh.
She is incredibly private about her life, but did tell Entertainment Tonight that “It’s the best. I know everyone always says that, and everyone says, like, it changes how you look at the world and how you, like, see love. Now it’s just, like, such a bigger thing, and all of that stuff is so true.”
Drake
Drake has one son named Adonis, who was born on Oct 11, 2017,with whom he welcomed with Sophie Brussaux.
Caitriona Balfe
Caitriona Balfe and her husband Anthony “Tony” McGill welcomed a son on Aug 2021, and they haven’t revealed any details about their son to the public.
