Celebrities react to Robert Mueller's testimony: 'POTUS is a criminal'

Former special counsel Robert Mueller testified Wednesday on Capitol Hill — the first time since his investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. People were glued to their screens for his carefully-worded replies —and that, of course, included many celebrities.

Highlights included Mueller confirming that Trump asked staff to falsify records relevant to the ongoing investigation. He also said that Trump could be charged when he leaves office, and stated the reason that he wasn’t was because of the Office of Legal Counsel’s (OLC) opinion that a sitting president can’t be indicted.

Chris Evans, a frequent commenter on all things Trump, was wowed by the testimony — literally. He shared the clip of Colorado Congressman Ken Buck asking Mueller if he could charge Trump with a crime when leaves office to which Mueller replied “yes” not once but twice.

There were many reactions to Mueller confirming that he didn’t charge Trump with a crime per the OLC’s position, including Alyssa Milano and John Cusack.

Cusack wrote, “Yup obstruction all day long.”

Cusack also called for Trump’s impeachment.

Bette Midler, a Trump feudmate whom he dubbed “a washed-up psycho,” shared a photo of Mueller with a quote from his report behind him. It said, “[W]hen [former Attorney General] Sessions told the President that a Special Counsel had been appointed, the President slumped back in his chair and said, ‘Oh my God. This is terrible. This the end of my Presidency. I’m f**ked.”

The actress asked her followers to keep the quote “foremost in your mind” leading up to the 2020 election.

Midler also shared this Mueller quote:

Director Rob Reiner wrote that there’s “no question” that Trump “obstructed justice.” He wrote: “POTUS is a criminal.”

Here are some more reaction from Ellen Barkin, Piper Perabo and others. More than one commented on how Mueller was being treated by lawmakers:

For the record, the New York Times reported that Trump was in his residence as testimony took place. It was inferred that he remained there to watch it.

Mueller’s testimony began one week after he was originally set to testify. He is set to appear before two committees — the House Judiciary Committee and Intelligence Committees.
