Celebrities react to Robert Mueller's testimony: 'POTUS is a criminal'
Former special counsel Robert Mueller testified Wednesday on Capitol Hill — the first time since his investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. People were glued to their screens for his carefully-worded replies —and that, of course, included many celebrities.
Highlights included Mueller confirming that Trump asked staff to falsify records relevant to the ongoing investigation. He also said that Trump could be charged when he leaves office, and stated the reason that he wasn’t was because of the Office of Legal Counsel’s (OLC) opinion that a sitting president can’t be indicted.
Chris Evans, a frequent commenter on all things Trump, was wowed by the testimony — literally. He shared the clip of Colorado Congressman Ken Buck asking Mueller if he could charge Trump with a crime when leaves office to which Mueller replied “yes” not once but twice.

There were many reactions to Mueller confirming that he didn’t charge Trump with a crime per the OLC’s position, including Alyssa Milano and John Cusack.
Lieu: “The reason you did not indict Donald Trump was because of OLC opinion stating that you could not indict a sitting president, is that correct?”
Mueller: “Yes”— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) July 24, 2019
Cusack wrote, “Yup obstruction all day long.”
Yup obstruction all day long - RT @joshtpm: This. Basically the whole thing. https://t.co/UMs3vmC872

Cusack also called for Trump’s impeachment.
Impeach RT @rebeccavallas: BREAKING: Trump has issued yet another massive regulatory attack on Food Stamps, again sidestepping Congress to force cuts by fiat—since he didn’t get his way in the Farm Bill last year.

Bette Midler, a Trump feudmate whom he dubbed “a washed-up psycho,” shared a photo of Mueller with a quote from his report behind him. It said, “[W]hen [former Attorney General] Sessions told the President that a Special Counsel had been appointed, the President slumped back in his chair and said, ‘Oh my God. This is terrible. This the end of my Presidency. I’m f**ked.”
The actress asked her followers to keep the quote “foremost in your mind” leading up to the 2020 election.
Try to keep this foremost in your mind for the next year and a half. https://t.co/c7jfZIhBbT

Midler also shared this Mueller quote:
"An unsuccessful attempt to obstruct justice is still a crime."

Director Rob Reiner wrote that there’s “no question” that Trump “obstructed justice.” He wrote: “POTUS is a criminal.”
There is absolutely no question: The President of the United States Obstructed Justice. Numerous times. Mueller felt constrained by DOJ rules from drawing that conclusion. Now AG Barr has freed Mueller by publicly stating he could have done so. So, tell US! POTUS is a Criminal!

Here are some more reaction from Ellen Barkin, Piper Perabo and others. More than one commented on how Mueller was being treated by lawmakers:
Mueller served as a Marine Corps officer during Vietnam & received a Bronze Star for heroism. He was appointed to positions by Bush, Clinton, Bush & Obama. And he was the Director of the FBI.
It’s infuriating Republican members of Congress act rudely to him. #MuellerHearing— Piper Perabo (@PiperPerabo) July 24, 2019
You can disagree with Mueller. You can take issue with his investigation & report. What you can’t take issue with is that he’s a patriotic American who has stepped up to serve his country time and again. Disrespecting the man, berating him, not letting him answer, is plain wrong.

It’s scary to think Mueller could literally say Trump is working directly on behalf of Russia right now and 90% of Trump supporters would say it’s fake news and not care.

#Trump said he won’t watch any of Mueller’s testimony, but also that he’ll probably watch some of it. His attention span is so poor he can’t even commit to sit through something about his favorite subject, himself!
— Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) July 24, 2019
For the record, the New York Times reported that Trump was in his residence as testimony took place. It was inferred that he remained there to watch it.
Mueller’s testimony began one week after he was originally set to testify. He is set to appear before two committees — the House Judiciary Committee and Intelligence Committees.
