Celebs speak out against Supreme Court's decision to allow transgender military ban to go into effect
While Tuesday meant champagne for some, thanks to the unveiling of the 2019 Oscar nominations, it was a disappointing day for many who were paying attention to what was going on in Washington, D.C. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 in favor of allowing the Trump administration’s partial ban on transgender people serving in the military to continue, while challenges to the policy move through the lower courts.
Sarah Silverman, Josh Gad, politicians and others quickly made their disapproval known, as “Supreme Court” trended on Twitter.
Make no mistake. This is a dark day 4 our country. When able bodied & brave Americans r told they can’t serve because of their orientation, that is not progress. That is bigotry at its worst. Our highest court is supposed to protect Americans. Not service the whims of a despot.

Today’s SCOTUS decision permitting the Trump administration to continue its ban on trans servicemembers while the litigation is pending is a travesty of justice and a blow to the heart of all notions of equality and fairness.

As the military itself determined, someone’s gender identity has nothing to do with their ability to serve our country in uniform. And, #TransRightsAreHumanRights. Yet, sadly: https://t.co/o4xMA4QskG

Outrageous. Trans Americans who have put their lives on the line to defend our country will be restricted from military service by this administration. There is no basis for this other than ignorance and cruelty. https://t.co/CXApaZflYJ
