Céline Dion’s Emotional Tribute to the Bee Gees
Céline Dion was one of many artists who came together back in February to honor the Bee Gees. On Sunday night, CBS aired the tribute, Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute to the Music of the Bee Gees, where Celine sang “Immortality,” a song they composed for her 20 years ago.
It was a particularly emotional performance due to the recent loss of Céline’s brother and husband, and the losses Barry Gibb suffered over the years, including his brothers. Céline said, “I sing it with love for Barry, and in memory of Robin, Maurice, and Andy, as well as for my beloved brother, Daniel, and my husband, René.” Following the song, Celine hugged Barry and told him “Thank you” and “I love you.”
While it was an emotional moment, most of the night was an upbeat celebration, with artists like Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, John Legend, and Stevie Wonder all singing the classic hits of the Bee Gees. John Travolta even dusted off his white suit for the occasion. Even though there were plenty of amazing performances, the best of the night was when the man himself, Barry Gibb, graced the stage for a trio of hits, including “Stayin’ Alive.”
